It will be “Shovels in the ground” next month (October 19th) for top-tier contractor Built to mark the rise of the new $100 million Kardinya Town Centre redevelopment.
Preparation work will begin with fortification of the key South Street wall that will support the later construction of a three-level parking deck.
Centre owner, Dr Con Berbatis, said the siteworks had huge significance.
“Following our DA in June we will be underway within weeks,” Dr Berbatis said.
The South Street siteworks will be followed in early 2021 by the replacement of the existing Shell service station with a new 7-Eleven fuel station and drive-in store. That work is scheduled to be completed by the end of financial year 2021.
Pending finalisation of leasing negotiations, Stages 1 and 2 are likely to begin in May and run up to December 2021.
These Stages will include a 1000 square-metre expansion of Coles, construction of a three-level 800-bay parking deck and new premises for fresh food retailers. A formal onsite project-launch is likely to be held at the commencement of these Stages. This would be followed by Stages 3 and 4 that would likely entail around 12 months’ work. These will deliver the dining and entertainment precinct including state-of-the-art cinemas and residential apartments.
Meanwhile, a number of business operators have already signed early letters of intent to take up tenancy options within the Stage 1 precinct. They include personal services, fresh and health foods. The medical centre, set to have key frontage on the intersection of Northlake and South Streets, will be anchored by a well-known metropolitan GP Group.
“It’s great to have these businesses quickly indicate they will be coming on board and we are confident that many more will be joining them in the coming months,” Dr Berbatis said.
